Sometimes war is going to break out between you and a large stellar empire, and to force a peace, you will probably have to occupy their planets. I don't think invading planets is something you will only do occasionally in Stellaris. This model is tolerable if invading planets is something you do occasionally. The armies load onto the transport ships and unload at their destination, ready to die gloriously for the Emperor. The default model for moving armies about would treat planets like island provinces in EU4 or HoI3. To make matters worse, having a bad solution to this problem will hurt more in Stellaris than in other 4x games. That is, what is the gameplay model for building, deploying and transporting ground forces between planets? I don't recall playing a space 4x game that actually had a good model of this. My concern is about how the troops, on both the attacking and defending side actually get to the battle. Regardless of the level of detail, we know that there will be ground combat, and it seems quite likely that we will have the option of leaving such details to the general in charge. There is a lot of speculation about how ground combat will work in Stellaris, how detailed will it be, etc.
